Cicely Tyson’s radiant power

She was brilliant, beautiful and unapologetically Black, writes Sherrilyn Ifill, who says that when she was growing up in the 1970s Tyson changed the game for Black women and girls: “An actress who looked like us and who could demonstrate in her performances the existence of the rich interior life of Black women was in those days, and frankly still in these days, a powerful source of affirmation – a display of our humanity for all to see.”
